School of Humanities and Social Science of Kunming Medical University was developed from the School of Humanities, which was founded in 2005, and now it is also the Medical Humanities Education and Research Center of Kunming Medical University. Currently, it has three full-time undergraduate programs, namely Labor and Social Security, Marketing and Social Work. Relying on the master's program in Applied Psychology, it enrolls master students in Management Psychology, Social Medicine and Public Health Management, etc.. At present, School of Humanities and Social Science has more than 780 graduate students and undergraduates.
School of Humanities and Social Science adheres to the concept of “people and culture oriented” and strengthen moral education and cultivate students with virtue. Based on faculty development, School of Humanities and Social Science aims at comprehensively promoting quality education, carrying forward the humanistic spirit, and accelerating all-round development of students.
School of Humanities and Social Science has a teaching and research team with noble ethics, high professional level and strong scientific research ability. There are 35 faculty members, including 3 professors, 4 associate professors and 2 master’s supervisors. Medical Humanities Education and Research Center employs more than 50 experts and professors as visiting professors, part-time lecturers or researchers. The school has presided over a number of scientific research projects such as National Social Science Fund Projects and the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project of the Ministry of Education. They have also guided more than 60 projects including College Students Innovative Experimental Plan Projects and College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan Construction Projects. The school has published more than 200 papers and edited more than 40 monographs and textbooks.
School of Humanities and Social Science undertakes professional courses of three undergraduate programs, namely Labor and Social Security, Marketing and Social Work. It is responsible for more than 10 courses of medical humanities, quality education and liberal arts in the university. Medical Ethics was awarded as a Provincial High-quality Course. The school held many teaching research and reform related projects and their achievements won 1 first prize and 1 second prize of Yunnan Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award and won some other university-level awards. Many teachers have won awards in national and provincial teaching competitions. The school has extensively cooperated with the government, enterprises and research institutions, constructing a number of practical teaching bases.
School of Humanities and Social Science features interdisciplinary integration. Relying on the medical education resources in medical university, a series of core courses of management, economics and sociology have been designed by the school, guaranteeing the cultivating mode of “thick foundation and broad caliber” of undergraduate programs like Labor and Social Security, Marketing and Social Work. The school adopts the teaching form of “Double Module” and “Double Practice”, which combines the specialties of medicine with management and sociology. Moreover, the school organizes a series of lectures of “society, humanities and medicine” as well as social practice activities combined with teaching. By doing so, both the school and students can benefit a lot. This is not only the characteristic and highlight of the practical teaching system of the school, but also the professional specialties and advantages that distinguish graduates from other types of universities.
Labor and Social Security
The major of Labor and Social Security belongs to the secondary discipline of Public Management under the category of Management. It began to recruit students in 2002, and was selected as the provincial first-class program in Yunnan Province in 2017. Relying on medical education resources of KMU, it integrates the knowledge of Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine with that of Management Science, Social Insurance and Commercial Insurance. It aims at cultivating interdisciplinary and application-oriented specialized talents who understand medicine, insurance and management and can engage in management and research fields related to social security and medical insurance in government departments, labor and social security agencies, medical and health institutions, commercial insurance companies, human resources departments of large and medium-sized enterprises and institutions.
Compared with graduates majoring in insurance, labor and social security from other universities, students of this program have medical knowledge and clinical practice, enabling them to have obvious professional expertise and advantages in medical insurance underwriting, claims settlement, cost control, etc.. The teaching content of “public courses + medical courses + professional courses” and the double practice arrangement of “clinical practice + professional practice” are the characteristics and highlights of this program.
Marketing
The program of Marketing trains applied professionals who can engage in marketing and management in enterprises, institutions and all kinds of social organizations, especially in the pharmaceutical enterprises and health departments with pharmaceutical marketing management. Cultivated with professional marketing and basic medical knowledge, students systematically master the basic theory of management and economics and the basic skills of marketing, with knowledge of management, economy, law, marketing, medicine and other aspects, and the ability to analyze and solve practical marketing problems.

Social Work
The program of Social Work aims at cultivating well-rounded students with good professional and practical ability. Graduates of Social Work are trained to be theoretically knowledgeable and practically capable in social work, social investigation and policy analysis. Bearing in mind social responsibility and medical expertise, graduates are qualified to work in government departments, social welfare institutions, health and medical institutions, social service organizations, etc..
